Some packaged foods come with extra liquids and serums inside packaging and preserves. For this reason, we often ask ourselves if it is good to consume all the contents of these foods or if the best option is to throw away part of them. Like this, canning liquids of tuna or sardines, or milk cream whey, for example, leave the doubt: is it healthy or not to consume?

Find out if it is good to consume liquids and whey from canned foods:
- Oils or water from canned fish
One of the foods that leaves most doubt whether it is healthy or not to include in food: the water or oil that comes inside the package to preserve canned fish.
Currently, due to environmental issues of contamination of fish by mercury and other toxic components, it becomes more dangerous to drink the liquids that come inside the package. Some experts say that canning in oil is healthier because the compound manages to “remove” mercury from fish more easily than water.
So while liquids are also a rich source of omega-3s and other nutrients, throwing away some of that liquid will prevent you from becoming more contaminated, as the chances of the fish being contaminated are already high normally.
It is also advised to only consume fish if you have high blood pressure or salt-restricted diets. That's because pickling is made from brine.
- Sour cream or yogurt serums
In the case of milk cream or yogurt whey, they are great sources of protein, vitamins and minerals. This composition is part of the natural milk fermentation process, not requiring the addition of any artificial or toxic canning component.
Safe for consumption, the act of removing the whey, in fact, will only make a difference in the consistency of any recipe you choose to prepare.

The best way to avoid consuming components that are harmful to health is to learn to read food labels before buying them at the supermarket. Thus, it will be easier to differentiate a food that is being conserved with many artificial and processed components that are harmful, compared to natural preservation.
Canned fruits and vegetables, on the other hand, are naturally not harmful to health, and only need to be restricted if someone has restrictions on sugar or salt consumption. In cases of high blood pressure or diabetes, for example, it is best to avoid natural canned liquids based on high levels of salt or sugar.
