The Ministry of Justice says that social networks are not neutral

With this, a deadline of up to 72 hours was given for social networks to explain to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security (MJSP) about the new measures they adopted to inhibit any type of content addressed about violence in institutions educational. The deadline, therefore, began last Thursday, 13.

When giving an interview after publishing the ordinance, Flávio Dino indicates that social networks do not have a neutral role in the face of these issues. For the minister, the algorithm works by suggesting publications on the subject, indicating accounts, and this is also part of the plan to be regularized.

“What the ordinance states is that they are politically, socially and legally responsible. Because these companies are service providers, they select content that we view, they drive content, they influence, therefore, the content that circulates on the internet", said the minister.

Social networks need to inform the National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon), an agency of the Ministry of Justice, about new rules for the algorithm's recommendations. In case of non-compliance with this rule, companies may be fined and may even be suspended from social networks.

For Flávio Dino, social networks can use their own filter to remove any publication that incites violence from the air, although the Public Prosecutor's Office has the approval to indicate any type of publication exclusion, even if it has gone through the filter of the algorithm.
