Study proves benefits of anti-aging protein

O aging it's a natural process that affects all living beings, but science has been dedicated to finding ways to slow it down. One of the most recent approaches has been the study of proteins with anti-aging properties capable of performing different functions that delay cell aging. There is even a special one, called α-Klotho, which is the main reference when talking about anti-aging protein.

Anti-aging protein research has become increasingly relevant to the development of therapies aimed at prolonging health and longevity. Lately, one protein in particular has drawn a lot of attention due to its results. Follow now more information about the α-Klotho protein:

Knowing the α-Klotho protein

According to a study published by Scientific Reports, the α-Klotho protein has the amazing ability to extend lifespan in humans and mice. In addition, the substance acts as a neuroprotector against neurodegenerative diseases and brain injury.

Conducting the study

The study carried out used mice to evaluate the action of the protein and found that α-Klotho acts on astrocytes, nerve cells that provide nutrients for the support of neurons. Including, the protein is very versatile, being useful in the fight against neuroinflammation in different conditions, such as aging and cerebral ischemia (when there is blockage of blood flow in the brain). Furthermore, the study found that the α-Klotho protein had a protective role against inflammation in cells of the central nervous system that interact with neurons, the famous glial cells.

Another interesting fact is that the concentration of α-Klotho protein increases significantly after birth and in adulthood, decreasing with age. The study points out that the dysregulation of inflammation in the brain is strongly related to the progression of neurodegenerative diseases.
