One of the candidates for the title of oldest still inhabited city is the city of Jericho, located in the West Bank.

With notable appearances in the biblical Old Testament, Jericho has a rich and complex history. It is believed that the first buildings and walls were built around 9000 BC. W.

However, it is important to note that these ancient structures are not located in the modern city of Jericho, but in an area known as Tell es-Sultan, located about 2 kilometers north of the center current.

Although part of the ruins are now inhabited, there are doubts about the continuity of occupation throughout its impressive 11,000-year history.

Damascus – Syria

Other cities in the West Asia region also stand out as potential candidates for oldest city. Damascus, for example, once held the title of the oldest city still standing before Jericho.

Archaeological remains suggest that humans inhabited this region around 9000 BC. C., although continuous occupation was not established until around 3000 BC. W.

Aleppo – Syria

The city of Aleppo is also worth mentioning, with archaeological records dating back to 6000 BC. W.

Unfortunately, the city is currently involved in conflicts, but its vestiges reveal the millennial history and the rich patrimony culture that exist there.

Anyway, civilization survives

Although the exact definition of the world's oldest continuously inhabited city can be subjective and debated by scholars, the importance of locations such as those presented above is undeniable.

Each stone and each story contained in these places whisper about the distant past and connect us with our origins, proving that the human race has the incredible ability to reinvent itself and survive throughout the time.
