Why is the division made into categories?
If you are about to get your first driver's license and already want to pursue a career involving vehicles, you need to know the categories. They are divided into A, B, C, D and E, according to some criteria established by the transit agency. Understand each one of them.
The qualification categories
- Category A
It only allows the driver to drive vehicles with two or three wheels, regardless of cylinder capacity. They are: motorcycles, scooters, tricycles and mopeds. Mobylettes are also included in this category, but in this particular case, only an authorization to drive mopeds is enough.
- Category B
In this category, the driver is qualified to drive vehicles with up to four wheels, which do not exceed the weight of 3,500 kilos and whose maximum number of people driven is up to 8.
- Category C
This is directed to cargo vehicles, such as trucks. Vehicles in this category must weigh more than 3,500 kilograms and less than 6,000 kilograms, including the bodywork.
- Category D
Category D includes vehicles for transporting passengers such as buses, vans and minibuses. The interesting thing about this segment is that only people over 21 years old can get a license in this category. Thus, before obtaining it, it is necessary to have owned CNH in category B for two years or C for one year and not have committed a serious, very serious or more than one average offense in a period of 12 months.
- Category E
The last category is made up of all previous vehicles. In addition, it allows the driver to drive vehicles over 6,000 kilos. Some examples are those that have a unit attached, such as a trailer, semi-trailer or trailer.
