Minister says there are signs of fraud in the FNDE!

Camilo Santana, appointed as Minister of Education in the Lula Government, gave an interview to Veja Magazine, in which he spoke about controversial issues related to the conduct of the portfolio in recent years. It is the case of FNDE, that, according to the Minister, there are indications of fraud with public money to serve political interests.

For Camilo Santana, there was little transparency in the transfer of public funds destined for the FNDE during the years of President Jair Bolsonaro's government.

In order to determine the destination of public money, the Minister also mentions the existence of a report by the Federal Court of Auditors (TCU), intended for tracking funds from the Ministry of Education (MEC) for carrying out programs and works in the management of the last president.

What is the FNDE?

The National Education Development Fund (FNDE) is an organ that is part of the structure of the

MEC, and aims to carry out actions aimed at the management of basic education, such as school lunches and also with actions in higher and professional education.

Disciplined by Law n. 5,537/1968, the execution of long-term public policies for education in Brazil is the main role of this body, which has initiatives such as the National Food Program (PNAE) and the Direct Money at School Program (PDDE).

With a billionaire budget, the folder has already been the target of some investigations in recent years, and is suspected of corruption with the involvement of the Minister of Education Milton Ribeiro and two pastors, Gilmar Santos and Arilton moura.

In conversation with journalists from Veja magazine, in his office located in Brasília, Camilo Santana says that the FNDE budget passed through the rapporteur's amendments, also known as secret budget, without there being any transparency.

Thus, he maintains: “there are several signs of fraud, which an audit by the Attorney General's Office is deepening at my request. For me, it was clear that large resources were channeled to meet political interests”, said Camilo to Veja.

According to him, with the conclusion of the investigations, the government intends to hold everyone involved accountable for the alleged allegations of corruption, and will make the situation public.
