Be healthier with homemade food
Everyone knows that the ideal is to eat as healthy as possible, and that this is easier when you eat at home. However, recent studies have found that the process of preparing your own food can have beneficial impacts on your mind and relationships as well.
In Australia, a survey was conducted with 657 participants who took a healthy cooking course with chef Jamie Oliver. This study reports that after students prepared themselves with the course, which lasted 6 months, they noticed major changes in mental health. Research leader Joanna Rees says quality mental health outcomes aren't just linked to an improvement in diet.
That's because students who were obese or overweight also showed these results, even if they didn't lose weight. Thus, Rees concludes that the improvement has to do with the satisfaction of knowing how to prepare one's own meals in a fun and healthy way.
In addition, the research also found that knowing how to cook can improve relationships between family members and also the division of tasks at home. In this way, problems such as unbalanced division of household chores between men and women can be reduced, which makes living together more pleasant.
