What is the bug in Safari?

The browser has flaws in the indexed implementation of the IndexedDB API on iOS and macOS systems, according to the service responsible for fraud and fingerprint detection. The function of this programming interface is to store data in the respective browser and restrict access to them.

There is a policy called “same origin”, according to which a website cannot have access to databases generated by others other than its own. The error in the Safari system is allowing the violation of this policy, hence the risk of exposing the information.

The disturbance in the system is worrying, in particular, for those who access Google services in the browser. However, the problem can also affect other platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Netflix, for example.

What are the consequences of the Apple browser problem?

According to experts, malicious sites can take advantage of the flaw in order to perform a data scraping, which is a technique to extract information from platforms, and thus discover other elements about a person. In this way, it is possible to access even the user's profile image.

Is there a fix for the vulnerability in Safari?

It is not yet known when the problem will be resolved, but Apple is currently testing the iOS/iPadOS 15.3 and also macOS Monterey 12.2. Therefore, it may be that these new versions fix the bug.
