The grant serves as a form of “incentive to individual effort and emancipation” which is provided for in Law No. 14,284, where Bolsa Família was replaced by Auxílio Brasil. This scholarship will be given to students who stand out during these competitions, and who are part of families supported by the government, in poverty or extreme poverty.
According to the text of the law, that student who wins a gold, silver or bronze medal, or else an honorable mention in one of these academic competitions, will be eligible to receive, next year, the scientific initiation scholarship. The winners will be paid 12 monthly installments worth R$100, plus a single installment of one thousand reais for the student's family. Thus, a total value of R$ 2.2 thousand is made.
The Ordinance clarifies criteria
Ordinance No. 6,410 served to clarify and objectify the criteria for accreditation at national academic events, thus having the chance to find new talents from different areas of knowledge, and who deserve the financial incentive to inject into the studies.
For all data to be analysed, competition organizers must submit the results to the MCTI, with the in order to cross-reference information about students and the Single Registry, which is necessary to join the aid. The National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq) is in charge of taking care of the operational part of the scholarship payments.
For beneficiaries of the Auxílio Brasil, 50% of the scholarships will be distributed to high school students, and the other 50% to elementary school students.
If, in any of the competitions, there are no students eligible for the scholarship, they will be redistributed in sequence and equally to other competitions. Each winner will only be able to obtain one scholarship, even if they achieve results in more than one competition.
