How much is the Ford launched in 1991 worth, reset and stored for 20 years?

A car that has been garaged for 20 years, in good condition, is not something you see every day. For the time without being used, we imagine it to be something that catches the eyes of collectors of vintage cars, and indeed the Ford Escort Formula 1991 is among the relics of production.

The relic's first owner lived in Porto Alegre (RS) and bought the car as soon as Ford launched it, but was unable to drive the new purchase due to serious health problems. While facing turmoil in his personal life, he went to the gas station to buy fuel so as not to allow the car's engine to be harmed.

Reginaldo Gonçalves, the new owner of the relic since 2011, said that the first owner of the rarity on four wheels did not let go of the vehicle. The gaucho's daughter put the car up for sale only when her father died and collector Reginaldo de Campinas became interested in buying it.

The interest was so great that the car had to be taken from Rio Grande do Sul to São Paulo in a truck, only for the mileage not to be changed. The new owner was impressed, as even the tires were intact and showed that the years were not enough to end the Ford Formula.

The only worn detail was the fuel tank cap, precisely because the first owner fueled the vehicle at home. For Reginaldo, this was the only “problem” the car had. Otherwise, the car was intact, with almost zero mileage and with the ability to live much longer. After all, what makes Formula One a rare vehicle?

Why is the Ford Formula so rare?

Ford launched a special category of the car in 1991 and sold only 750 units in Brazil. The old and sporty look, adhesive on the side, are fine examples that justify the rarity of the model. Besides, it was the first car produced with adaptive suspension in Brazil.

The engine is 1.8, gasoline, with five manual transmission gears. 375 units were launched in red and 375 in metallic blue. The model cost 10.3 million cruzeiros in 1991 and, converting to real, it reaches R$ 300 thousand.

Reginaldo Gonçalves kept the amount he paid to get the car out of Porto Alegre a secret, but the auction specialist Joel Picelli made the bet: the relic model went from R$ 100 thousand to go towards to São Paulo.
