Magda Soares is a reference in literacy and literacy
Literacy is a term increasingly used in Brazil. This refers to the understanding of reading and writing as social practices, with regard to the Portuguese language in our daily lives. Literacy, on the other hand, is related to grammatical rules as a code.
According to Magda Soares, these two pillars must be worked on simultaneously, as well as the theories and practices that interact with each other. When criticizing the literacy process in Brazil, the researcher cites that failure in education happens both among children as well as young people and adults, and that this occurs during the learning of writing and reading, which worsens posteriorly.
In addition, Soares emphasizes that the population with a low level of reading, comprehension and interpretation does not have a quality education. The main focus of her work is training aimed at working with written language in Early Childhood Education, but also in the years that begin Elementary School. That's why she developed the Alfaletrar Project on her website.
