Education: know what it is and what levels of education

Schooling is a term used to refer to the length of time students remain in school.

It is the period when students develop their learning skills, in addition to developing their ability to understand teaching.

Schooling is also related to the progression of teaching at school. It comprises formal and mandatory education systems.

These schooling systems are made up of several school levels that are successive and applied by observing the student's cognitive growth and evolution. These school levels have different names, depending on the country where they are instituted.

These school levels can also be called education level. They correspond to the level of education that an individual has, according to the levels of education that were started or completed by him.

Education levels

In Brazil, the Law of Guidelines and Bases of Education – LDB (Law 9394/96), proposes that school education be structured in two stages: basic education and higher education.

basic education

Basic Education is made up of kindergarten, elementary school and high school.

Child education: has guidelines for the basic education of younger children (up to 5 years of age, usually).

Elementary School: it covers a period of nine years and is mandatory for children aged six years and over. Its objective is the basic education of the citizen.

High school: its training is focused on the job market, the improvement of the citizen as a human person and the deepening of knowledge acquired in the previous stages. Secondary education lasts an average of three years and precedes higher education.

University education

Higher education is the stage after secondary education and is the last stage of school education. It is taught in higher education institutions, whether public or private, with specific training in various areas of professional and scientific knowledge. When the student completes higher level studies, he then obtains his degree.

After graduation, the student can choose to continue the studies started in this training, through the programs of postgraduate courses, which include specialization, master's, doctoral, improvement and other courses that are open to candidates graduates. However, these courses are considered only as subdivisions of higher education.
