See some countries with strange laws
Among countries with standards that can sound exotic for us Brazilians are:
Qatar: use of alcoholic beverages
Starting with a country on the rise, Qatar, host of the 2022 World Cup. There, the use of any type of alcoholic beverage in public or in the World Cup stadiums is prohibited, with its consumption being allowed only in hotels or bars. In Qatar, only non-Muslims over the age of 21 can drink alcohol in private places. In agreement with FIFA, the Government of Qatar released the use of zero beers (without alcohol) inside the stadiums.
Indonesia: Sex outside of marriage
Indonesia created, in the year 2022, a law that prohibits and punishes extramarital sexual relations with a sentence of 12 months in prison, both for citizens and for tourists. In addition to not being allowed to insult the president and government officials, the law also prohibits unmarried partners from living in the same place.
Switzerland: Reciting poetry on the ski
Switzerland is a popular destination due to its culture and natural beauty, especially in the Swiss Alps, where skiing is very popular. However, a country law prohibits you from reciting a poem or poetry while practicing the sport of skiing. While the origin of this law is still unclear, be aware when skiing in Switzerland that the local police can stop you.
Sweden: Restricted places to dance
This law may come as a worrying surprise for Brazilians who want to visit Sweden, because there are designated places to dance there. However, the country punishes people who start dancing in public places without permission.
In private places, however, owners need to ask the Government for authorization so that people who attend can dance. Although it is not a strictly enforced law, several political parties are trying to overturn it, as it threatens local tourism.
Italy: eating in public
In the city of Florence, a highly visited tourist spot, the local authorities decided to create a law that would prohibit the consumption of food in squares and streets close to the historic center of the city. This was due to the high flow of tourists in the city, which resulted in a large amount of improperly discarded garbage.
The idea of this law is to contain the pollution caused by the large number of people who visit, in a way that prevents the movement of more people. The punishment for this infraction ranges from 150 to 500 euros.
