That procedure was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is what caused this uproar. However, the INSS proof of life has not been cancelled. What has changed is the way proof of life is carried out now, and these changes have been in effect since June of this year.
According to what was established as a new rule by the Federal Government, the proof of life no longer needs to be done in person, starting to be carried out only indirectly, through verification of information on the data of the insured on the platforms available from the Government Brazilian.
Basically, it is no longer necessary to go to the bank that pays the benefit for the insured person to prove that he is in fact alive. This is because now this is a responsibility of the INSS, which must carry out the verification. And for this to work, the INSS searches for information about the citizen that is available in the government databases until it is possible to carry out the analysis, such as:
- Voting in elections;
- Registration of transfers of goods;
- Vaccination;
- Consultations at SUS;
- Renewal or even the issuance of documents, such as RG, CNH or passport.
Therefore, if the person's CPF is included in one of these databases more recently, the institution will understand that the person has not died and proof of life will already be done.
It is worth remembering that the procedure was not working during the COVID-19 pandemic, and that shortly after the beginning of this year was mandatory again, only using remote platforms to verifications.
