It is common to see several artists who like and are proud to watch the productions made by themselves. Many use this experience as a self-criticism that will lead to improvements in future works. Tim Burton, known for several works – such as Edward: Scissorhands – is far from that! He hates watching his own movies.

Tim Burton and artists on their own productions
After all, are there really serious reasons why the director doesn't like to watch everything he creates?
For the director, reviewing the films he was a part of is like a “beautiful funeral”. This is due to the fact that, for him, each work is a part of his life story, so watching them again is like watching the past pass before his eyes.
Fans admire him, but they also criticized him for some productions that didn't please him at all, as is the case of Planeta dos Macacos (2001) and Sombra da Noite (2012). But as the director ended up conquering a legion of loyal followers, other films are more remembered when his name is mentioned, due to the great success.
This is the case of Corpse Bride (2005), Ghosts Have Fun (1988) and The Legend of the Headless Horseman (1999).
The most unusual thing about all this is that Tim is not the only one who has chosen not to watch his own movies. Director Adam Driver, for example, also doesn't like to watch the productions he directs, including Marriage Story, one of his biggest hits.
Actor Joaquin Phoenix, the Joker, also reported that he saw only two of his films: She (2013) and The Master (2012). According to him, he watched it only to make a self-criticism, but normally he doesn't watch any.
In any case, great directors cannot 100% avoid the work of having to verify the films they give life, because they are the ones who have to go through the entire post-production process and also editing to finalize them. Watched them on the big screen, though? This is unnecessary for some.
