Last Friday, the 31st, the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) released data from the Continuous National Household Sample Survey (Continuous PNAD) which estimates the income of Brazilian workers. The percentage increased by 0.6% compared to the month of January 2023 and increased by 7.5% compared to the average salary in February 2022.

The increase in average remuneration reached BRL 2,853 in 2023, with BRL 2,653 recorded during the same period last year.
The Food and Accommodation sectors also represented an increase of 6%, estimated at more than R$ 107, and the Domestic Services sector with a rise of 2.6%.
All category occupations had a higher percentage compared to the year 2022.
In 2020, before the pandemic isolation, the average salary was BRL 2,878, demonstrating the resumption of increasing stability expected for this year. Check details!
Increase in the average salary of Brazilians
Compared to the month of February 2022, these were the categories that presented an average remuneration for workers:
- Domestic services: 5.5% (or more R$57);
- Agriculture, forest production, livestock, aquaculture and fishing: 8.7% (or more R$ 147);
- Construction: 5.0% (or more BRL 107);
- Meals and accommodation: 7.6% (or more R$ 135);
- Public administration, security, defense, education, human health and social services: 6.5% (or more BRL 247);
- Information, real estate, administrative, professional, communication and financial activities: 8.1% (or more R$ 305);
- Other services: 13.5% (or more BRL 271).
Increase by category of workers
The increase in the average salary, divided by service category, also showed an increase:
- Registered worker: 5% (or more BRL 129);
- Informal worker (without a formal contract): 11.7% (or more R$ 201);
- Self-employed: 10% (or more BRL 209);
- Employer: 10.1% (or more BRL 642);
- Worker in the public sector: 5.7% (or more BRL 235);
- Domestic services: 5.5% (or R$57 more).
The resumption of the average salary is significant, approaching the average value that was in force before the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the unemployment rate has increased, the average salary has increased by 0.6% since January of this year.
