Disney closes water park literally one day after reopening

Depending on where you live, there's a good chance that winter has been pretty weird for you this year. That's true in Florida, where Disney World began reopening Typhoon Lagoon after a long shutdown this weekend.

It was good news for the water park for about 24 hours before it had to close again the day after reopening.

Here's what happened. Typhoon Lagoon has been closed for a long time as part of the gradual reopening of the parks. When I say a long time, I mean it; the water park has been closed for nearly two years, as part of all the full and extended Covid-19 closures that began in March 2020.

On the first day back, Disney rolled out the red carpet for new guests. One parks blog mentioned an opportunity to “build your own tropical flavor” on opening day. A video also showed cast members handing out necklaces to commemorate the park's return to life. Everything seemed to be going well... and then a cold front came in.

When I say "cold front" I mean cold enough to close a water park in Florida. On Monday, the day after Typhoon Lagoon reopened its doors to the public, it closed again. The reason? The cold front dropped the temperature to around 15 degrees in the region, according to WDW Magic.

Meanwhile, however, today the great city of Orlando is having around 24 degrees, a temperature which will hit at various points over the next few days, before hitting 26 degrees this weekend week.

This is just one of a series of delays that Disney World has faced in recent months, but it's good to know that the things are back on track and guests will now be able to check out that epic wave pool again.
