But what is VHS?

Popularly known in Brazil as the famous "cassette tape", the VHS which means Video Home System (translated in Portuguese to System of video homemade) was widely used in the 90's to watch movies and videos, later it was replaced by the DVD and, today, the online means of streams.

Collectors' Black Diamonds

There are cassette tape titles that can be sold on eBay for around R$70,000. However, films over $10,000 are those that have achieved “Black Diamond” status and are considered rare by collectors.

In the US, a person on this marketplace sold a VHS of The Little Mermaid for $10,000 (over 50,000 reais). The version sold at that price was the first to hit the market and had the advantage of an exclusive cover, making it even more expensive.

The Black Diamond VHS version of the 1987 film "Lady and the Tramp" is also considered rare by collectors, selling for over $8,000. There is also “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” (the first animated film produced by the Walt Disney Studios), a rare VHS version that sells for $12,000.

Other Disney Movies on VHS That Are Worth the Money

Depending on the condition of the tape and if the version is Black Diamond, you can have a very large financial return. For example, if you have the following titles on VHS:

  • 1959: Sleeping Beauty;
  • The 1985 versions, 1993: Pinocchio;
  • The 1985 versions, 1991: Dumbo;
  • The 1986 and 1991 versions: Alice in Wonderland;
  • 1988: Cinderella;
  • 1989: The Little Mermaid;
  • 1991: Beauty and the Beast;
  • 1994: Bambi;
  • 1994: The Lion King.
