What is language? It is the use of language as a form of expression and communication between people. Now, language is not just a set of spoken or written words, but also gestures and images. After all, we don't just communicate through speech or writing, do we?
So, language can be verbalized, and hence the verb analogy. Have you ever tried to pronounce without using the verb? If not, try it, and you'll see that it's impossible to have something grounded and coherent! Thus, verbal language is the one that uses words when speaking or when writing.
The language may be non-verbal, unlike the verbal, the word or words are not used to communicate. The objective, in this case, is not to verbally expose what you want to say or what you are thinking, but if use of other means of communication, such as: signs, figures, gestures, objects, colors, that is, signs visuals.
Let's see: a narrative text, a letter, dialogue, an interview, a written or televised newspaper report, a note? Verbal language!
Now:
The language can also be verbal and non-verbal at the same time, as in the case of cartoons, cartoons and advertisements.
Take a look at some examples:
Red card – report of serious foul in football.
Author's charge Tacho – example of verbal (óxente, north pole 2100) and non-verbal (image: sol, cactus, penguin) language.
Traffic signs – at the front “no cycling”, at the back “breakers”.
Symbol placed on the door to indicate “men's toilet”.
Image indicative of “silence”.
Traffic light with a yellow signal warning “attention”.
