In Brazil, most of the time, rice is made as a side dish, but in many dishes it is the main ingredient, as is the case with risotto. In this sense, although it seems simple, there are different types of rice, with completely different nutritional values and tastes.
The most common type that everyone should know about is white rice. Next to it is brown rice, also very common in Brazil, which is rich in fiber. In addition to these two types, there are also:
- specific rice for certain dishes, such as risotto and Japanese food;
- basmati, which cooks faster and is looser because it has less starch;
- parboiled rice, which retains more nutrients than white rice but does not absorb many of the flavors of other ingredients;
- black rice, ideal for salads or mixed with white or basmati rice;
- and red rice, which has a reddish color and is an excellent accompaniment.
