“Brazil has one of the broadest public policies in relation to cardiovascular diseases, which starts in primary care, in the 48,000 basic health units. We have a pharmaceutical assistance program, which was expanded today, with more drugs available at Farmácia Popular do Brasil. And, on the other hand, we have a very wide specialized care network, which is where we take care of the most serious cases” explained the Minister of Health, Marcelo Queiroga, in an interview for the program A Voz do Brasil.

According to Queiroga, high blood pressure is the most prevalent disease of the cardiovascular system, and four of the five new drugs are aimed at treating it. “We have to change people's habits, such as reducing salt in food, encouraging weight loss, not smoking. These risk factors are common to almost all cardiovascular diseases. highlighted. The minister also alleges that only a small portion of people receive the correct treatment for this disease, and that half of the carriers do not even know they are hypertensive.
