How to grow beets at home?

To grow beetroot in a pot, you need to take some precautions to ensure the ideal conditions for it to develop fully, with all the necessary nutrients.

Climate

The mild climate is ideal for growing sugar beet. However, this plant manages to survive well in higher temperatures. Thus, the range between 10°C to 24°C is recommended.

brightness

Beetroot loves light. Therefore, leave it in a place with direct sunlight for at least a few hours of the day, preferably during the morning shift or mid to late afternoon, after all this plant prefers mild temperatures.

Ground

The soil must have good drainage, as it should not become waterlogged. In addition, it must be fertile and rich in organic matter. The ideal pH is between 6.9 and 7.5. Furthermore, sugar beet grows best in soil rich in boron. In this way, you can buy compounds such as borax and apply foliar fertilizer after 20 and 35 days of planting.

Planting

The best months for planting beets are between April and June. For this, choose a vase at least 20 cm wide and deep, with holes in the bottom to facilitate the drainage of water.

To plant the beet, first, make a shallow hole with your hands, take three seeds and then cover with substrate. When the seedlings reach 2 cm in height, check which are the weakest and remove them, leaving only the most developed ones.

Irrigation

You must water the plant whenever the earth is dry. Thus, the soil should be moist, but not soggy.

Harvest

Generally, harvesting can be done about 80 days after sowing, when the roots reach 8 to 12 cm in diameter and 7 cm in length.
