Social program and the mentor
The Safeguard social program, aimed at students from public institutions, received 1,500 mentors. Vinícius de Andrade, founder of the social project, explained how the idea came about. He, graduated in economics from the University of São Paulo (USP), said that it all started with field research. Students who finished high school told him that they would like to continue their studies to enter higher education.
“I realized that the very relevant aspect that distances students from public schools from higher education and that is little talked about is the lack of information. It is very common for the student not to understand what a public university is, not to know that there are aids to enter one”, said the creator of the project to G1.
Thus, the work as a tutor and mentor was born.
The initial idea took university students to schools so that they could share their professional paths within the university. The project began in 2017, starting with public schools in the interior of São Paulo, in Ribeirão Preto. Three years after its founding, in 2020, the program spread across Brazil.
Of the 30 thousand students received, more than 600 approvals were made through three thousand volunteers.
A opportunity mentoring is a discovery for these people and can even become a career path. The experience of a mentor who can share all your difficulties and strategies to pass the test is something real and something that future university students need to have contact with before going on front.
