Extinction means the irreversible loss of biodiversity of a body at the planet. In addition, there are “functionally extinct” organisms, which are those that, despite still having a few living individuals, will never be able to recover. That is, this is usually due to their inability to contribute to their survival.
Finally, there are those organisms that are no longer found in the areas where they used to live, so they are “extinct in the wild”. However, there are still some organisms that are thought to be extinct in the wild but still have some living populations in other parts of the world.

1. angel trumpets
Angel trumpets are trees that have trumpet-shaped flowers and are widely used in garden decoration. They have seven species, however, all of them are functionally extinct in their original areas in South America. However, all seven species are cultivated as medicinal and religious plants by the indigenous peoples of South America. In addition, they are also grown as ornamental plants in other parts of the world.
2. Panamanian golden frog
Zoos are important for the conservation of these endangered animals, as they serve as large genetic reservoirs. Knowing this, a Golden Frog Project was created, where Panamanian golden frogs were collected for captive breeding by the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore in 2000. Thus, more than 1,500 individuals are alive and preserved in zoos in North America and Panama.
3. The squid
Alula (Brighamia insignis), also known as cabbage on a stick in English, is a Hawaiian plant that resembles a cabbage on a stick. The species faced a series of limiting challenges that made it extinct. All is not lost, however, as this is an easy-to-grow plant that grows well in pots. This soon led to it becoming an ornamental specimen that is commonly grown and sold in botanical gardens.
4. butterfly splitfin
Known as butterfly goodeids (Ameca splendens), these fish were once found in an area of the Ameca River drainage in Mexico. However, they are listed as extinct in the wild. However, a small native population was discovered near a Mexican water park in the region. Fortunately, these are easy to care for and breed fish, so they have been kept alive by aquarium enthusiasts.
