A little more about IPVA
IPVA is considered a tax aimed at vehicle owners, such as cars, trucks, utility vehicles and also motorcycles. Parallel to this, its acronym means “Tax on the Property of Motor Vehicles” and is a state category tax, that is, only the states (besides the Federal District) can collect the value.
Regarding the purpose of this tax, the money collected is divided into two parts, where 50% is destined for the municipal government and the other 50% for the state government, which is used in the maintenance and recovery of the highways. However, the tax is not fixed for everyone equally, the value of the IPVA is calculated based on the vehicle's quotation and its discharge is a requirement for licensing.
IPVA refund
As mentioned earlier, this tax is a state tax, so the rules may vary from state to state. This year, the State Department of Finance and Planning of São Paulo will refund the IPVA money of those who suffered theft or theft of their vehicle in 2021. Therefore, more than 13 million reais will be returned.
In addition, the governor of São Paulo announced the refund of IPVA paid in 2021 for people with disabilities (PcD). The forecast is that 250,000 vehicle owners will benefit throughout the state.
The timetable for starting and ending the entire process has yet to be released, but it is known that it should happen after the State Attorney General's Office is notified by the Court of Justice. It is important to point out that the refund only includes the amounts paid in 2021.
