SMS scam offers possibility to earn money quickly

A pyramid scheme disguised as a job vacancy. Some people receive these SMS with offers they can't refuse for jobs that in a short time offer a great financial return. There are different types of messages, but these scammers usually use the names of large companies to pass some credibility to the message, when necessarily it is a SMS scam!

How to avoid being scammed!

1. Stay alert to the numbers 

Although they use numbers similar to the telephone numbers of large companies, they are noticeable in the body of the text. some mistakes in Portuguese or even the absence of direct contact with the customer, such as, for example, mentioning his name in the message.

2. Contact or remote interviews

The next step starts from the moment the victim clicks on the link provided and is forwarded to WhatsApp to speak with an alleged recruiter. They always use a formal photo, in order to give security to those who add the number. The messages sent are similar to those programmed, however, in some cases, they are foreigners using the translator.

3. Registration on platforms and investment

Scammers ask victims to continue registering on a partner page of the large company mentioned in the first message. The link provided directs you to an unknown page in English and, after completing the registration, the investment is charged. At this stage, prints of other alleged participants who had the money back are sent, and the scammer suggests some investment options, with the money sent via pix.

4. construction of the coup

The first amounts invested return to the victim, as suggested by scammers. However, this is what instills confidence and induces greater investment. However, after that, investors no longer receive the financial return and end up losing all their money.

The National Consumer Secretariat (Senacon) stated that financial pyramids are prohibited in Brazil and that, in case of loss of financial capital in these activities, the victims must make the complaint.
