Still according to Councilor Luciana, this reality is not new and has been repeated every school year that begins. For her, in addition to harming students, the situation is terrible for teachers.
A shortage of teachers can seriously undermine the quality of teaching. Teachers are primarily responsible for imparting knowledge and skills to students, and their absence can significantly affect the learning process. “The survey points out that this lack of investment in public education in Rio will directly affect the health of education professionals,” said the councilor.
“The list for migration in 2022 had more than 8,600 teachers able to switch to the 40-hour regime. This explains why every beginning of the year we have classes without classes. In 2021 alone, 1,834 [teachers] left the network permanently,” Boiteux reported.
The current Secretary of Education in Rio, Renan Ferreirinha, recorded a video on the last February 14th and released it on social networks clarifying that it announced the temporary hiring of 670 professionals to supply temporary layoffs and invited 570 professors approved in previous competitions, totaling 1,240 new professors, who will join the network in the coming weeks.
The body also adds that with these strategies it will meet the current demand for teachers.
