How did they discover the fraud?
Through some complaints made by the page “Coma Com Os Olhos”, on Instagram, it was announced that the meat of the sirloin steak was no longer used by McDonald’s a few years ago. Soon, they really were part of the recipes, but to inform customers, they were removed from the plate. In addition, the page informs that employees were instructed to use another meat, called “Tasty meat”.
This part is 100% beef, and is made from selected parts of the animal, but not the sirloin steak itself. What really makes the difference is the sauce, which has the flavor and aroma of the cut. In addition, in its banners and notices, the company has included information that the hamburger is 100% beef and flavored with the sauce. However, even so, it can still be processed.
After all, when selling a product with a specific name, it can make the consumer believe that the meat is a rump steak. In a note, the company regretted the confusion and said that the communication regarding the new products really may have created some doubts among customers.
What did McDonald's say about the case?
Despite the notes and information already released, it has not yet been publicly confirmed if there have been changes to the sandwiches recently released. Even so, through some investigations made by some news portals, some clues were found that affirm the changes. This is because, in 2019, when McPicanha was launched, the brand advertised it as “Made with Picanha”.
However, this information was only disclosed on the online banners. On the day of the official launch in its franchises, the same seal no longer appeared in the advertisements.
