According to the information disclosed, the profit of the Severance Indemnity Fund was lower than expected, totaling R$ 12.84 billion. The drop was 16.41% compared to the expected R$ 15.37 billion, according to information from the Globo newspaper.
The value was also lower than that of the previous year, which totaled R$ 13.2 billion in profit divided among beneficiaries of the FGTS. On July 25th, the FGTS Board of Trustees will meet to discuss the fund's performance and decide how the transfer to beneficiaries will be carried out.

It is worth noting that, last year, workers received 99% of the total amount from the FGTS Fund. This year, the Board can decide to transfer the full amount or to remain the same as the previous year. However, all payments must be made by the end of August for all workers receiving the Fundo de Garantia.
Why was there a drop in FGTS profit?
According to data collected by GLOBO, there are some factors that may be included to explain why the Fund's performance was not so high. This is because the FGTS is using part of its resources for the Microfinance Guarantee Fund (FGM).
This fund was created by the government of former President Bolsonaro to cover defaults by small borrowers. Approximately R$1.8 million was set aside to cover this default.
In addition, there was the result of a debt with the National Treasury, originating from the former BNH, relating to loans to Housing Companies (Cohabs). However, at the end of operations, the Union, which is now responsible for the debt, will have to settle these amounts owed to the FGTS.
Who can receive this amount of profit?
All workers who had a balance in their FGTS account until December 31, 2022 will be able to receive the profit amount.
However, it is worth mentioning that these amounts are not available for withdrawal at any time. Workers will need to go through some of the situations below to be able to withdraw the money that is in the account:
- Retirement;
- Pension;
- Maternity Allowance;
- Aid for natural disasters (calamity withdrawal);
- Unjustified dismissal (unemployment insurance).
