Insects selective for a blood type
An interesting fact about these Culicidae animals (family of insects usually called muriçocas, mosquitoes or mosquitoes), is that they are proboscis, this means that they use a long buccal canal to pass through both the skin and in the plants.
In the case of these beings, only the females suck blood to nourish their eggs with the proteins present in the compound. Males, on the other hand, feed mainly on plant nectar.
To assess their blood preference, a study was conducted in 2004. Only Aedes albopictus mosquitoes participated in the sample. The researchers released a group of mosquitoes and observed their behavior.
According to the observation results, the species showed greater interest in O blood. Thus, type O individuals were twice as likely to be stung than those with type A, for example.
With regard to the other types B and AB, the results were not significant.
Other studies show that about 85% of people emit a chemical signal through their skin that mosquitoes can detect. It is this sign that indicates the person's blood type and influences whether or not he will be stung.
How important is this discovery?
This may be the answer to many of the problems caused by these animalssuch as the transmission of malaria and other diseases.
Scientists also argue that there are many ways to prevent this potential vector and that they should be used regardless of blood type.
Now that we know what mosquitoes' favorite blood is and how they choose their victims, it's time to protect yourself! Use repellents, wear suitable clothing and don't let those unwanted mosquitoes ruin your day. Care and protection always!
Although it may not seem like it, theseinsects, like others, are essential for the proper functioning of the ecosystem, so instead of killing them you can just prevent yourself.
