MEC announces a 54% increase in the number of grants for teacher training

The increase in the number of teacher training grantss takes place during the undergraduate degree and is reinforced with the provision of scholarships by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES).

According to information from the Ministry of Education (MEC), training should receive a special incentive with a 54% increase in the number of scholarships granted by CAPES to expand the Teaching Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBID) and the Pedagogical Residency.

How will scholarships be offered for teacher training

According to MEC estimates, PIBID will benefit around 55,000 students studying for a degree, offering more than 25,000 scholarships.

On the other hand, the Pedagogical Residence should provide 5,600 scholarships to more than 34,000 students who wish to become teachers.

The scholarships offered by CAPES aim to prepare future teachers to practice in the classroom, whether in teaching of basic education, which covers primary and secondary education, whether for undergraduate courses at the higher.

Today, PIBID is offered to undergraduate students during the first half of the course and is focused on the practice of teaching in classrooms of Brazilian public schools that provide education basic.

The Pedagogical Residency, in turn, takes place in the second half of the degree courses and aims to help the student during the supervised internship, one of the final stages of graduation.

Minister of Education comments on the increase in the number of scholarships for teacher training

According to Camilo Santana, current Minister of Education, the idea of ​​increasing the number of scholarships is to provide practical experiences for students, which will contribute to improving the quality of teacher training in country.

For Camilo Santana, PIBID and the Pedagogical Residence represent great opportunities for experiences that can be taken to classrooms, especially in basic education and literacy.

In the country, it is estimated that 187 institutions of higher education can be contemplated with the increase in PIBID scholarships. For the Pedagogical Residence, there are 92 institutions of higher education that are qualified to receive the new scholarships.
