- The two elements that form the word are inflected;
- Only the first word-forming element is inflected;
- Only the second word-forming element is inflected;
- None of the elements undergo bending, thus remaining invariable.
What is the correct way to write chat in plural?
Chat is a word formed by juxtaposition, this means that a new word is formed from the junction of two or more words, for example: chat + chat.
Bate is a verb, thus the conjugated form of chat and chat, being a substantive. Therefore, one of the rules for forming the plural of scompound nouns, says that: compound nouns formed by a verb as the first element are made plural by inflecting only the second element.
So the plural of the word chat is chats.
