The “Forgotten Money”
In February 2022, the Central Bank announced that around BRL 8 billion would be stuck in banks throughout Brazil. These amounts became known as “forgotten money”, as they come from old bank accounts that remain active, even if the holder is not notified about it.
In order to facilitate the redemption, the institution created a platform that allows users to verify the existence of money.
How to carry out the money transfer?
In addition to the amount to be received, the consumer is also informed about the period in which he must make a request to redeem forgotten amounts.
And then, according to the Central Bank, the transfer request will start on March 7, 2022 and will be done in stages. Payment must be made by the bank within 12 days of the request on the website.
Step by step to request the amount
To request the return, first access the website valorareceber.bcb.gov.br.
Second, fill in the blank fields either with the CPF and date of birth of the holder, or with the CNPJ and date of opening of the company.
The site will show if there are amounts to be received, if any, it will be available on the date informed on the home page to request redemption.
Finally, return to the website on the date indicated, log in with the gov.br portal (to make the redemption, the gov.br account must be silver or gold) and follow the platform's instructions.
Redemption will be carried out in stages, according to the dates of birth or opening of companies.
As for the transfer, this can be done by Pix, DOC or TED (fees may be charged according to banking institutions for transfers via DOC or TED).
