O central bank (BC) launched two commemorative coins to celebrate 200 years of Independence of Brazil. If you like collecting coins, stay tuned to get yours! One of the specimens is cupronickel (an alloy of nickel and copper) and the other is silver. In addition, the coins are worth R$ 2 and R$ 5, respectively.

Coins commemorating the Independence of Brazil
The coins are intended for collectors and will be produced by the Mint. Sales will be made through the Clube da Medalha website. As for the values, the cupronickel coin will cost BRL 34, while the silver coin will be sold for BRL 420.
Differences in commemorative coins
According to Roberto Campos Neto, president of BC, the coins portray the historic moment that led us to independence. In this sense, both display the first stanza of the Anthem of Independence on the obverse (front), in addition to their respective face value.
BRL 2 coin
As for the cupronickel coin, it will be the first in history to contain colorful details, as the obverse (front) has a green-yellow band. In addition, the R$ 2 coin still displays the cry of independence on the reverse (back), similar to the painting Independence or Death, by painter Pedro Américo.
BRL 5 coin
The silver coin has the Brazilian flag on the obverse, in addition to the value and stanza of the Anthem, mentioned above. On the reverse, it shows the Council of State session that ended with the sending of letters asking Dom Pedro to break with the Portuguese Crown.
The image on the back of the R$5 coin features the painting “Sessão do Conselho de Estado”, by Georgina de Albuquerque, in the background; and in the foreground shows the lithograph “D. Pedro I: Emperor”, by artist Sebastien Sisson.
