Etias: What is it and how will it work?

Etias is an acronym in English, which means European Travel Information and Authorization System. The document was designed to enable the entry of travelers for commercial, tourist, transit and medical purposes.

The document can be requested for a fee of 7 euros, online, and will be required for all people, regardless of age group. However, minors and seniors over 70 years old will be exempt from the charge.

What will it take to access Etias?

It will be necessary to fill in an online application form, in which you must provide some basic data such as name, address, passport details and date of birth. In addition, there will also be questions about criminal background and security issues such as travel to conflict zones.

Upon application, most travelers should receive authorization within about 15 days. However, in some exceptional situations, this period can be extended to 30 or even 60 days.

Brazilians can attend any EU country until May 2023 without presenting authorization

Brazilians will be exempt from presenting any authorization in addition to their passport to visit European Union countries until May 2023, as long as the stay is up to 90 days. However, it is important to stay on top of the particularities of each country, and it is also important to follow the health protocols in each place.

Which countries will use Etias?

So far, the requirement affects 60 countries, and Brazil is among them. Thus, the measure applies to everyone who already had visa exemption for European destinations, while other nationalities will need another document, the Schengen visa, and will not become eligible for the Etias.
