New law allows the renegotiation of FIES debts

On the last 22nd of June, the approval of the law that allows the renegotiation of FIES debts for students who joined the financing until the second half of 2017. FIES

In 1975, the Educational Credit program (CREDUC) was created by the government of Ernesto Geisel. In 1999, during Fernando Henrique Cardoso's term, it was reformulated and became the Student Financing Fund (FIES). In subsequent administrations, such as Lula's, interest rates were reduced from 6.5% to 3.4% with the aim of helping more students enter university.

With the enactment of this law, debt amounts may have discounts of up to 77% on monthly fees. Those who are enrolled in CadÚnico and have debts overdue for more than 360 days will be able to receive discounts of 99% of the amount.
