What is the current workday in Brazil?
According to CLT rules, the working day must be 8 hours a day and 44 hours a week to be effective. However, in some cases the situation may be different. In addition, each company can divide this journey into several scales (already existing in the standard).
The proposal made by the presidential candidate
Observing also the wage decrease along with the reduction of the working day, the PSTU candidate for the presidency of the Republic, Vera Lúcia, came to run for office stating that she would reduce the working day, but without reducing the wage. However, without her election, will this agenda still be discussed?
Decrease is not in sight to occur
All these discussions were nothing more than proposals from the presidential candidate. Vera Lúcia intended to combat informality in the labor market through measures such as reducing the working day, but this should happen without a wage cut.
At a campaign event in the city of Salvador (BA), the candidate even said that her plan was to propose a reduction in working hours without reducing wages. In her proposal, she said that the reduction to just 30 hours a week could create more than 10 million jobs.
Furthermore, Vera said that the implementation of the public works program would simultaneously create jobs and ensure expansion of public services, including kindergartens, schools, hospitals, health centers, collective housing and health public.
This is an old proposal
It is also essential to note that the proposal to reduce working hours is not a recent promise. In fact, this is said because the same candidate wanted to shorten the working hours to 36 hours a week since 2018. In addition, she wanted to extend unemployment insurance for two years.
