The specialist in studies of the effects of pesticides, Larissa Bombardi, is organizing a new edition of the atlas of the use of pesticides in Brazil. It is expected to be published later this year. She denounces that a 2017 report has data from 2007 to 2014 with the average number of intoxicated children in the period, so that, at that time, the average was 43 children and 10 adults, and says she was shocked by the results current.

“The numbers shocked me as they only increased. By the daily average, there are 15 people intoxicated per day. In the old survey, there were 10. Among babies aged 0 to 1 year, the daily average of poisonings increased from 43 to 50. This high has been maintained for all the cuts I have made”, highlighted Larissa.

Bombardi, who is also a professor at USP, first published the report in Brazil in 2017. In the European Union, the study was only launched three years ago and even received a boycott from a Scandinavian supermarket chain selling Brazilian products.

After the incident, the teacher had all of her work publicly attacked by agribusiness entities and public figures. In addition, she also claims to have suffered threats to her physical integrity, which forced her to leave Brazil last year, accompanied by her two children.

The specialist, who currently lives in Belgium, is working on a new edition of the atlas, which will seek to provide an overview of poisonings between 2010 and 2019.
