What foods can help you breathe better?

According to a study produced at Harvard University, people are more affected by respiratory problems when their diets are deficient in certain nutrients. This level increases in adolescents due to low consumption of vitamins C and E, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. Young people examined in the study had worse lung function and reported a higher incidence of breathing problems, including coughing and a runny nose.

1. citrus fruits

Citrus fruits such as tangerine, guava, orange and acerola have a high level of vitamin C. With that, they are important to boost immunity and prevent respiratory infections like flu and pneumonia. In that sense, it is essential to ingest at least one of these options per day.

2. Linseed

This seed acts as an emollient on the mucous membranes, relieving symptoms of respiratory problems. One daily serving is enough to boost the immune system. The indicated amount is one tablespoon in the meal. Also, if it's shredded, it's even better.

3. Ginger

The compound that gives ginger its pungent flavor, gingerol, is an anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. For this reason, its consumption is indicated to improve the respiratory system. You can make ginger tea, or add a few pieces to meals or drinks.

4. Garlic

Alliin and alisin found in garlic help fight infections caused by bacteria, fungi and viruses. The goal is to eat this raw food, but knowing that this is difficult, you can use it finely chopped in a yogurt-based salad dressing.
