Even though its closure was decreed by the federal government in October 2021, the extension of emergency aid, which lasted about a year and a half, continues to be a much discussed subject among the population and even among the parliamentarians.

However, the Planalto Palace ruled on the matter and admitted that there is a possibility of returning to the emergency aid program, but that it would be in a specific situation. The return of the benefit would only occur if a new wave of coronavirus appeared, for example, if there was another lockdown resulting from the Ômicron variant.
Therefore, during the second wave of the disease in Brazil, the Ministry of Economy approved a PEC that allows the extension of the benefit, in case there is this specific situation of a new wave. If sanctioned, the text will only be valid for the duration of the state of public calamity resulting from Covid-19.
What are the chances of extension?
Even though the chances of overtime are slim to none, there could be. However, it is more likely that this will not happen, since Congress is very close to an agreement on the PEC of Precatorios. The proposal aims to release resources for the new Auxílio Brasil program to cover over 2.5 million new families.
But if the plans regarding the new initiative do not work out, the government can start a new edition of a Provisional Measure that makes it possible to recreate the emergency aid. This situation, however, is only a second option, since they are really focused on implementing the Brazil Aid.
