Never select the middle booths in public restrooms

When we are out and about and need to use a public restroom, choosing the right stall can make all the difference. There are people who cannot even think about the possibility of using the bathroom in the street, however, the choice does not always come from a particular decision. When the bladder squeezes, no one can stand it!

What to do, then, when we need to use a bathroom outside the home? Science may better explain this phenomenon, as it has revealed some important reasons why we should avoid middle booths in these locations.

Avoid some booths in public restrooms

Research shows that the middle cabins tend to be the busiest and therefore may be less sanitized than others.

These cabins are more likely to have privacy issues as they are surrounded by other cabins on either side. This can cause discomfort and even increase the risk of invasion of privacy.

Avoid the middle cabins! The science indicates that we should stay away from the center booths and focus on the side booths. Unlike middle staterooms, side staterooms offer some significant advantages.

First, they tend to be less crowded, which means reduced foot traffic and potentially a cleaner, more hygienic cabin.

In a curious survey conducted by psychologist Nicholas Christenfeld, in 1995, and published in the journal Psychological Science, the use of toilet paper in a public restroom on a beach in California was tracked closely. Over a ten-week period, the caretaker in charge of the bathroom recorded how often the toilet paper was changed in each cabin.

This singular analysis allowed us to identify an interesting pattern: the middle cabins are the most frequented. This finding raised the question about people's preferences when choosing a booth in public restrooms.

Although this particular study was conducted in a single public restroom, the results suggest that there is a natural preference for side stalls. It is believed that this choice is based on the feeling of greater privacy and comfort that the side cabins offer.
