According to the country's new Penal Code, extramarital sex is now punishable by one year in prison and cohabitation. The declaration of the new crime was made in the Indonesian Parliament, by the vice-president of the house, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, who declared that the penal proposal was approved with the majority of the votes of the Plenary.

As the law encourages, the accusation of the act must be pointed out with grounds and complaints to the local police, and must be made by the parents, children or spouse of the person. For this new law, everyone needs to pay attention, as the penalty is applicable to Indonesians and also to foreigners living in the country.

This was an attitude that caused great uproar among opponents of the penalty, as they believe that the act is against the freedom of the population by making normal everyday attitudes a crime. The opposition also points out that freedom of expression and privacy in the country has been extinguished. However, this is not exactly how most Indonesian politicians see the act.

Abortion in the country is also a crime, with an exception provided by the medical law of 2004: when the woman has conditions that can life threatening and when there is a matter of life and death, with the fetus being less than 12 weeks old, abortion may be to happen.

Also, it is illegal in the country to promote something that controls the natural birth or to practice an aggression towards the local religion. It is also crime insulting the vice president acting in the country, as well as insulting the country's ideology and its state institutions.
