The skulls were of different sizes. They were wrapped in plastic wrap and aluminum foil. There was no documentation proving the origin and transport of the remains. In addition, they could not prove the identity of the dead people either.
According to the police, the destination was Manning, South Carolina. The package came from Apatzingán, in the Mexican state of Michoacán, one of the most violent areas in the country, as reported by the Reuters news agency.
Investigation
According to the Law of Mexico, the internment and removal of corpses (or mortal remains, in this case) from the country can only be done with authorization from the Ministry of Health. Or by order of a judicial authority or the Public Prosecutor's Office.
The organ will investigate the case of the bizarre order with four skulls. So far, it is not known why they sent the remains to the United States.
