Maximum time you can stay without paying the electricity bill
A survey carried out by the National Confederation of Shopkeepers (CNDL) and the Credit Protection Service (SPC) points out that the problem with delays in paying the electricity bill is the second biggest issue for citizens at the moment. Delays are second only to debts contracted with banks and because of their absurd interest rates.
The electricity bill is one of the highest among household expenses. And as already noted, this keeps many Brazilians awake at night. Although a good part tries to save during the month, it is difficult to achieve savings that really make a difference in the citizen's pocket. In addition to the concern about the debt, many are left with the question: when will the last day with electricity be? When will the supply be cut off?
Those who think they have a month and a half or more are wrong. The law provides that companies can cut any service, even if it is of essential use, when there is a default on accounts. The arrears can be as little as 30 days.
Power Suspension Details
For electricity bills, service suspension may take up to 90 days from the due date. After this period, the distributor can no longer cut off the supply, so the debt collection will be up to the courts or through administrative channels.
According to the National Electric Energy Agency (Aneel), the consumers need to be notified about the cut due to default 15 days in advance. If the customer finds himself without electricity even without having been notified about anything, he will be entitled to compensation. For those who cannot keep their bills up to date, it is recommended to make an agreement with the distributor and renegotiate the debt. This is a measure to avoid suspension of services.
The Social Tariff is helping millions of families pay their electricity bills. It's worth seeking out.
