Lesson plan – Food, nutrition and food pyramid
THEME: food nutrition
SUGGESTED TIME: 2 classes
GOALS:
- Know what healthy eating is.
- Understand the importance of healthy eating.
- Understand the food pyramid.
- Recognize food groups.
MATERIAL REQUIRED:
- computer and projector
- Choice of food figures
- Image of a food pyramid
- Paper and pen
DEVELOPMENT:
- Introduce the topic with the class and ask students what their favorite food is. Give opportunity to everyone who wants to speak.
- Now ask why we have to eat and narrow the answers down to nutrients for the body.
- Show students different pictures of food such as salads, vegetables, meats, pasta, rice and beans, hamburger, milkshake, water, soda, etc., choose healthy foods and not healthy.
- Explain to students that foods provide us with energy to carry out our activities and that it is important to choose foods that have the highest nutritional value. Briefly explain that food releases energy in the form of glucose and if it is not used, the body stores it. as lipids, causing body weight to increase and may increase the risk of diseases associated with obesity.
- Show the foods again and now separate in a list those that are considered healthy and unhealthy.
- Introduce the food pyramid to the class, ask students to try to decipher how it works.
- Explain the food pyramid, show that it is a graph that represents each food group in its place, in addition to showing that some food groups should be consumed less than others so that the diet remains healthy and balanced.
- Show the groups one by one, emphasizing that the foods that are at the bottom should be in most of the daily diet and those at the top in smaller quantities.
- Draw papers among students with the following words:
- Rice, bread and pasta
- greens and vegetables
- fruits
- milk and derivatives
- meat and eggs
- Oil and fat
- Bean
- sweets and sugars
- Build a food pyramid together on the board as you read the cards drawn.
ASSESSMENT:
The evaluation of this class can be done through participation in the proposed activities in the classroom.
