In order to facilitate inspection and seek to standardize CNH documentation, some changes were necessary. Check out the main changes:

1. Renovation

There were no changes to the CNH probationary period, which remains one year for the provisional license or driving permit. The main change is in the renewal of the document, which will now be done according to the driver's age. Check the relationship between age and renewal period in the table below:

driver's age

Renewal term
Between 18 and 49 years old 10 years
From 50 to 69 years old 5 years
Over 69 years old

3 years

2. Document appearance and organization

CNH's new structure features two significant changes: colors and layout. The colors of the CNH were changed compared to the previous model, with a predominance of a lighter shade of green, in addition to the presence of yellow, blue and gray.

Regarding the layout, the driver's signature has been moved below the photo, different from the previous model. In addition, the new model displays not only the main categories (A, B, C, D and E), but also the subcategories (B1, C1, CE, C1E, D1 and D1E) to meet international standardization.

What about the old document?

For the happiness of many, traditional qualifications remain valid even after the changes in the CNH. This means that those who have the old documentation within the validity period do not need to renew it or request a new copy.
