A change in traffic legislation increased the fine for incorrect use of insulfilm

The National Traffic Council (CONTRAN) established new rules on the use of insulfilm in vehicles, and they are already in force in the country. In this way, drivers should pay attention, as the fine for non-compliance with the measure is characterized as a serious infraction, and may even lead to the retention of the car until the car is adapted.

Failure to comply with the new measure leads to five points on the National Driver's License (CNH), as well as a fine in the amount of R$ 192.23. Therefore, it is recommended that whoever has a non-compliant vehicle do what is necessary as soon as possible to regularize the car and not suffer any penalty for doing so.

What's the change?

The changes address the bubbles that can appear on the insulfilm films, which, depending on the area in which they appear, end up harming driving, as they greatly compromise the driver's vision. Thus, bubbles are strictly prohibited in places such as the windshield and front side windows.

Resolution no. 960/2022 of Contran did not only bring this change, another important and necessary one to emphasize is about the minimum luminous transmittance of the glasses. Previously, the amount of light and brightness that passes through the assembly composed of the film and the glass - that is, the index of luminous transmittance – from the front side windows and windshield could not be less than 70% for colored items and 75% for colorless ones.

Now, with the change, the two types are considered equal, whether colored or colorless, both having a minimum percentage of 70%. In the remaining windows of the vehicle, which do not affect drivability, the minimum percentage of the item is 28%, remaining unchanged. The same rule applies to the rear and side windows.

Finally, in order to avoid points and fines, Contran does not allow reflective or opaque film that prevents the total passage of light through any glass in the vehicle cabin. According to the resolution, only roof glass and armored car windows are free of the new changes mentioned, as well as such as forestry, road, agricultural and other vehicles that are not intended to circulate on public roads.
