Drinking too much tea is hurting Pakistan
As we have already mentioned, Pakistan is a country where citizens drink a lot of tea on a daily basis. Therefore, the consumption of this drink, mainly in families, is a strong cultural factor of the Pakistanis. However, they are not the main producers of the herbs that make the drink. In fact, the country needs to import large amounts of raw materials from other parts of the world to meet domestic demand.
However, recent resource scarcity and inflation problems may lead to a cutback in teas. This is because it was necessary to cut several types of imports, in an attempt to balance the national accounts. In view of this, the authorities had to resort to the media and ask the civilian population to reduce the amount of tea considerably. But, as you can imagine, not everyone is willing to remove such an important item from their routine, and that ends up making the whole scenario worse.
Tea price rises in Pakistan
One of the effects of the economic crisis that the country is facing is precisely the increase in the price of teas. The government has already developed strategies to face the problem. However, this includes the reduction, or even extinction, of imports of so-called non-essential products. In this, tea entered the list and became one of the new threats of cuts.
On the other hand, Pakistani citizens argue that tea is an essential product for the country and that, therefore, to stop importing it would be absurd. Even so, several official announcements reaffirm the importance of at least controlling the amount you drink per day. As you can imagine, this is a rather complicated task, since not even high prices lead consumers to remove this item from shopping.
