Understand the difference between TIA and stroke

Check now the characteristics, signs and symptoms that differ the Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA) from the Accident cerebral vascular (stroke):

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)

TIA happens when a cerebral artery ruptures or clogs, generating a neurological deficit which is the result of this ischemia or hemorrhage.

The main causes of this problem are the presence of blood clots that will temporarily block the blood flow for the brain.

The clot can be caused as a result of high cholesterol, increased blood pressure, and clot formation from heart attacks or heart anomalies.

The symptoms are loss of feeling in the arm, leg or some other part of the body. Nausea, slurred speech, difficulty communicating can also be a sign of a TIA attack.

Cerebral Vascular Accident (CVA)

It occurs when the blood supply to the brain is interrupted or drastically reduced, preventing oxygen and nutrient cells from reaching the brain.

Cerebral arterial malformation (aneurysm), hypertension, thromboembolism and heart disease are among the main causes of stroke. The main signs and symptoms are weakness on only one side of the body, loss of vision, difficulty speech, paralysis on one side of the body, changes in consciousness levels, as well as other symptoms.

Difference between TIA and stroke

TIA is one of the main risk factors for the development of stroke and the main difference between TIA and stroke is the stabilization and reversal time, up to 24 hours for TIA.

That is, TIA is characterized by brief symptoms, lasting less than 24 hours, often less than 1 hour, unlike stroke.
