Professor accused student of doing AI work, but was wrong

Educators face challenges in combating the use of ChatGPT in classrooms. Opinions differ as to the educational benefits of this artificial intelligence versus concerns about plagiarism, for example. Still, there is much to be discussed.

While some argue that the features offered by AI outweigh the potential downsides, others argue for a complete ban on the tool at universities.

The truth is that plagiarism already existed even before the creation of OpenAI, but there is a need for specific education for the new AI.

The advanced technology of artificial intelligence seems to have confused many people. One teacher even adopted a different method to be able to detect whether a work was plagiarized or not.

One teacher suspected that a student's work was "too well done" to have been written by a human, so he turned to a robot for answers. The one who shared the experience was the college student on the Reddit forum.

It seems that the teacher's perception did not work out very well.

Teacher accuses student of using ChatGPT

Due to the high quality of the student's work, the professor assumed that he must have used AI technology to complete it. In an email to the university student, the professor wrote: “When I read your answers, they seemed very well done – almost too perfect. So I asked ChatGPT if he had written them, and he said he had. Based on that information, I moved on.”

The teacher assigned a zero grade to the student on the essay based on ChatGPT's assertion that he had written it.

However, the student, surprised by the grade he received for his hard work, went to the teacher to discuss the situation. The teacher, after checking on several AI detection websites, realized that the essay was written by a human and apologized for the misunderstanding.

After receiving the new information, the teacher re-evaluated the student's scores to reflect the fact that he had actually written his own answers.

The student, although initially affected by the assigned zero, does not seem to harbor resentment towards the teacher. He ends his post with an expression of surprise and bewilderment.

Some people on Reddit expressed mixed opinions on how teachers will handle the AI plagiarism issue. One user suggests that educators adopt more traditional methods, such as handwriting essays and other assignments, to avoid the possibility of plagiarism.

Other users defend the incorporation of AI technology in school work, arguing that fighting its advance is not effective and comparing it to the initial resistance to calculators in classrooms classroom.

The forum discussion reflects different perspectives on how education can adapt to these technological changes.

It seems that the discussion is not only at the university, but the public has also expressed opinions. what do you think about?
